Food Entry #6: Veselka Restaurant
Long time no post, so here is a mixed bag of things that have caught my eyes in the past couple weeks.
Veselka is a quaint East Village joint that doesn't evoke the expected pageantry of most diners in NYC, but what it lacks in gaze, it replaces with meaty substance. My sis, Jamie, and Robbie hopped over to this restaurant after the Bruin-Jayhawks game this past Saturday night. And I must say, there isn't a better way to finish off a splendid evening than with some Ukrainian gastronomical delights.
Potato and meat-stuffed pierogis, beet salad, and a cabbage-wrapped meat /rice bun topped with a delicate gravy sauce.
Wallet-trimmer: Take that 15 and allot yourself an over/under of 5 since we're not at Caesar's.
Preconceived generalization left at the door or at the bill: Nearby uni's spitting empty philosophical diatribes while downing a pierogi.
Newfound reason to settle down in the corner with your latest Kafka short story: Blood-red borscht soup that will "beet" your food senses into metaphysical chaos. Yum.
